About Violet

Hi, I'm Violet!

I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. My family and I have lived in New Zealand, China, and Malaysia, but I'll always be a Midwestern girl at heart.

Ever since I was little, I've been drawing and making stuff. When I grew up I became a theater designer, then an editorial illustrator (for magazines and newspapers). Motherhood piqued my interest in children's books, and I switched gears again. I've illustrated nearly 50 books since then, eight of which I wrote. Most of my books are for kids, but I create books for grownups, too.

Reading is my favorite hobby. I have lots of favorite books. Here are a few:
